The IEA's World Energy Outlook Special Report on the Oil and Gas Industry and COP28 examines the impact of oil and gas operations on global emissions. These operations account for approximately 15% of total energy-related emissions, equivalent to 5.1 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions. The report emphasizes the importance of reducing emissions from the oil and gas industry in order to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. The IEA advocates for policies that will enhance the reliability, affordability, and sustainability of energy in its 31 member countries, 11 association countries, and beyond.
