TheInstitutionofCivilEngineersiscelebratingits200thanniversaryin2018andcancounttheseengineeringgiantsaspastmembers.Thereisnodoubtinmymindthatthesegreatinnovatorswouldhavegraspedtheopportunitieswenowhaveatourdisposalwithbothhands.Asanindustrywemustfollowtheirleadandswap‘fasterandcheaper’for‘smarterandmoreeffective’.Wemustthinkaboutachievingbetteroutcomesforthesocietiesweserve,andwemustembracethenewtoolsthatthedigitaleraoffersus. Thereisnootherprofessionthatisinabetterpositiontotackletheissueofhowtomanagethedemandsofagrowingpopulationthancivilengineering.
