Soletusjumpstraighttothematterathand: Whathaschanged?Ofcourse,priceshavechangedforthebasketofhigh-endgoodsandservices–thisyeartothetuneof4percentonaverageinUSDandonaglobalscale.Thepriceofsomeoftheitemswefollowhavechangedmoredramatically.Takethecostofahotelsuite,forexample,wherepricesinAsiaPacificdroppedbyalmost11percentwhiletheyrosebyalmost34percentintheAmericas(drivenbyNYC).Therankingsofthe majorcitieshavechangedaswell.Zurich,myhometown,movedupafulleightpositionsintherankingsandotherEuropeancitiessuchasMilan(+6)andParis(+5)alsofollowedsuit,pushingEMEAtothetopoftheregionalrankings.TheflipsideisthattheAmericasbecomestheleastexpensiveregionandAPACdropstosecondplace,withTokyonowbottomoftheAPACrankinghavinglostastunning15positionssince2022. Whathasnotchanged?Thelevelofpriceincreasescontinuedtodeclineonaglobalscale.Hardcoreeconomistswouldsaythat‘inflationhasbeenslowing’becausethe4percentpriceincreaseisstillfarslowerthanthe6percentlastyear,nottomentionthehigh-single-digitincreaseswewitnessedbeforethepandemic.Anotherthingthatdidn’tchangemuchisthecitiesatthetopandatthebottomofourindex.SingaporeandHongKongremainamongthetopthreecities,despitesomeEuropeanscatchingupandLondonmakingthepodium.Attheotherend,JohannesburgandVancouverremainintheirranksaswell.Forthemost 3 thoroughreaders,wehighlightourchangesinmethodol-ogyofcourse.
