The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has released its Renewable Energy and Jobs Annual Review 2019, which reports that 111 million people were employed in the renewable energy sector in 2018. This represents an increase of 6 million jobs compared to the previous year. The report highlights the importance of renewable energy in creating jobs and driving sustainable development. It also notes that the renewable energy sector is expected to continue to grow, creating even more jobs in the coming years. The report was developed under the guidance of Rabia Ferroukhi at IRENA and was authored by Michael Renner, Celia García-Baños, and Arslan Khalid. It was greatly benefited from modelling work on hydropower by Ulrike Lehr and Maximilian Banning (GWS). The report is available for download on the IRENA website.
