This report examines the potential of floating solar photovoltaics (FSPV) in India. The study focuses on the installation of FSPV power plants on inland waterbodies and details of applicable standards are included in Volume 2: Guidance Document. The study was commissioned by the World Bank and does not necessarily reflect the view of the Government of India (GoI). The report highlights the benefits of FSPV, including the fact that they do not require land diversion and can be installed on underutilized surfaces of large water bodies. The installation of FSPVs also creates jobs and stimulates the development of a domestic value chain. The report recommends that India consider the use of FSPV as a means of increasing its renewable energy capacity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
