ABSTRACT Westudythedeterminantsofhemoglobinconcentrationinwomenthroughouttheirlifecycleandaskwhetheranemiaduringadolescencepersistsintoadulthood.UsingapanelofindividualsfromtheIndonesianFamilyLifeSurvey(IFLS),wefindthatalthoughabout30%ofoursamplewasanemicduringagivensurveywave,63%experiencedanemiaatleastonceoverthefoursurveywaves,suggestingahighburdenofanemiaamongIndonesianwomen.Furthermore,thehighprevalenceofanemiaisnotlimitedtopoorwomenbutisalsoobservedinthewealthiersegmentsofthepopulation.Usingadynamicpanelframework,wefindasignificantrelationshipbetweencurrenthemoglobinconcentrationanditsmeasurementintheprecedingsurveywave,suggestingsomepersistenceofanemiastatusacrosssurveywaves.However,asmallautoregressivecoefficientsuggeststhathemoglobinconcentrationandthelikelihoodofanemiaconvergeacrosswomenovertime.Wefindafewvariablesthataresignificantdeterminantsofhemoglobinconcentration.Amongthem,householdsocioeconomicstatusandwagesofwomencomparedwithmeninthecommunityarepositivelyassociatedwithhemoglobinconcentration.
