The Felix Project, a London-based charity, aims to redistribute surplus food to address hunger and food waste. Established in 2016, the organization partners with retailers, restaurants, and farms to collect unsellable but nutritious food and deliver it to over 350 nonprofits and schools. Initially, operations relied on manual processes, including paper manifests and spreadsheets, which were inefficient and lacked real-time visibility.
To support its goal of providing 100 million meals annually by 2024, The Felix Project partnered with Accenture, Microsoft, and Avanade to implement a digital transformation solution. The platform, built on Microsoft Power Platform (including Power Apps, Dynamics 365, and Power BI), streamlined route and volunteer management, donor and beneficiary CRM, and reporting. Key features include a mobile app (RouteMe) for drivers to digitize data in real time, eliminating manual paperwork and reducing administrative hours.
The solution enabled real-time operational visibility through Power BI dashboards, allowing for rapid reporting and decision-making. It also improved efficiency by optimizing delivery routes, reducing empty van usage from 30% to a more efficient level. The Felix Project noted significant cultural and operational growth, moving from a startup model to a tech-driven, scalable organization.
The platform’s value includes a future-ready infrastructure for growth, immediate efficiency gains, and the ability to measure program success in real time. The partnership with Accenture and Avanade was highly valued, providing expertise and credibility. The Felix Project has distributed enough food for 14 million meals as of 2020, with a vision to end hunger and food waste in London.
