ACEA Position Paper: Sustainable European Urban Mobility Policy – November 2019
The report highlights the importance of sustainable urban mobility policy in cities, which are places of innovation, economic growth, and cultural activity. The report emphasizes the need for green mobility, safety, efficiency, accessibility, and affordable mobility for all Europeans. European policy makers should support the development of common standards and best practices, and optimize all modes of transport, including the consistent integration of sustainable urban mobility plans (SUMPs). SUMPs can help ensure policy coherence between local and national levels and set up coordination mechanisms between various authorities. The report also highlights the potential of new forms of mobility, such as shared mobility and advanced technology-based solutions, to complement traditional mobility and transport solutions. Policy makers should encourage these new mobility solutions by identifying good practices of local regulations and governance models. Finally, the report emphasizes the importance of connected vehicles and intelligent transport systems (ITS) in promoting sustainable urban mobility.
