The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) has released a position paper on the End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) Directive, specifically regarding the potential inclusion of trucks and buses. The paper explains that trucks and buses have been excluded from the scope of the directive since its implementation in 2000, which only covers M1 and N1 vehicle categories. ACEA highlights the complexity of heavy-duty vehicles, with thousands of different models tailored to specific commercial needs, and argues that extending the directive's scope to trucks and buses is not the right solution. The paper emphasizes the automobile industry's belief that an extension of the directive's scope is not necessary, especially considering the circular economy and competitiveness of the industry.
