The report discusses the need for structural changes in the oil industry, as traditional asset management models are no longer sufficient for achieving the IOCs' twin targets of reserves replacement at sustainable cost and operational efficiency. The report suggests a "big picture" approach to asset management that takes into account the full spectrum of opportunities and threats to which assets are exposed. The report also discusses the importance of actioning asset performance management (APM) and the role of "launch pads" in implementing APM.
