Dr.LEENaiShee,Harry,S.B.S.,J.P. 主席 Chairman 贸易通电子贸易有限公司 二零二三年中期报告3 Chairman’sStatement 主席报告书 DearShareholders, Thefirsthalfof2023sawHongKong’sexternaltradefacingstrongheadwindsamidweakoverseasdemandaswellasfurtherdeteriorationingeopoliticaltension.Ontheotherhand,ourreturntonormalcyafterthree-yearofCOVID-19pandemichadgivenHongKongsomefreshmomentumtorestartthelocaleconomy.AtTradelink,givenourrelevancetotheexternaltradesectorandthelocaldigitaleconomy,ourbusinessperformancesvariedabitduringtheperiod,dependingonwhatbusinesswewouldbetalkingabout.Butmoreimportantlyforusduringthereportingperiod,withtheproceedsofallourfinancialassetssoldlastyearandthesebeingputinbankdepositsgeneratingreasonablyhighreturns,IampleasedtoreportthattheGrouprecordedratherencouragingresults,withprofitbeforetaxforthefirsthalfof2023atHK$44.2million,anincreaseofHK$26.6millionovertheHK$17.6millionprofitbeforetaxrecordedlastyear;andprofitaftertaxofHK$38.8million,whichismorethan 2.6timesoftheHK$14.6millionlastyear. Sincethefavorablefactorforthereportingperiodwasmainlyduetothefinancialactivities,letmeexplainthisfirst.Wereportedlastyearthatwehadcompletelydisposedofourinvestmentinstrumentsduetotheuncertainvolatileinvestmentenvironmentandputtheproceedsinbankdeposits.Asaresultofthisprudentdecision,comparedtoatotalothernetlossofHK$19.7millionrecordedinthefirsthalfof2022mainlyduetotheheftyfairvaluelossonfinancialinstruments,theGrouprecordedatotalothernetgainsofHK$10.8millionthisyear,resultinginafavorableswingofHK$30.5million.ItisnoteworthythatothernetgainsmainlyconsistedofinterestincomefromtimedepositsofHK$9.3million,comparedwithinterestincomeofonlyHK$1.1millioninthepreviousyear.SeparatelyastheGrouphaddisposedofitsshareholdinginitsPRCassociate,GuangdongNanfangHaianScience&TechnologyServiceCompanyLimited(“Nanfang”)beforetheendof2022,wewerenolongerrequiredtoshareanyofNanfang’sresultsfrom2023onwards. 致各位股东： 二零二三年上半年，海外需求疲弱，地缘政治紧张令局势进一步恶
