ThesevereheadwindthathasreallyhitourperformancehardduringthereportingperiodwastheintensifiedmarketvolatilitytriggeredbygeopoliticalrisksthathavemoreorlesscoincidedwiththeinitiationoftheinterestratehikecyclebytheUSFederalReserveaswellasothercentralbanks.Duetotheintensemarketfluctuation,theGrouprecordedasignificantincreaseinmarketdevaluationofourinvestmentsinfundsandadiscretionaryfixedincomeportfolio.WhilesomewhatoffsetbyasubsidyofHK$2.0millionreceivedundertheGovernment’sEmploymentSupportScheme2022andareductioninthenetlossondisposalofcorporatebondsbyHK$3.2million,ourothernetlossincreasedbymorethan15timestoHK$19.7millioninthefirsthalfof2022comparedwiththatofHK$1.2millionin2021. Ontheotherhand,theperformanceofourPRCassociateGuangdongNanfangHaianScience&TechnologyServiceCompanyLimited(“Nanfang”)hasimprovedsomewhatduringthereportingperiodoverlastyearasourshareoftheirresultwasreducedfromalossofHK$1.5millionlastyeartoonlyanominalamountoflossofHK$0.04million.Asaresult,theGrouprecordedaprofitbeforetaxofHK$17.6millionforthefirsthalfof2022,down51.1%comparedwiththatofHK$35.9millionin2021.AftertaxprofitfortheGroupduringthereportingperiodwasHK$14.6million,51.5%orHK$15.4millionlessthanthecomparablefigureforthefirsthalfof2021.
