The net worth of US households and nonprofits rose to $141.7 trillion in Q2 2021, with gains in corporate equities and real estate. Nonfinancial debt outstanding was $63.3 trillion, with household debt at $17.3 trillion, nonfinancial business debt at $18.0 trillion, and total government debt at $28.0 trillion. Domestic nonfinancial debt expanded 6.4% YoY in Q2 2021, down from 6.7% in the previous quarter. Household debt increased 7.9% YoY, with consumer credit growing at an 8.6% YoY rate and mortgage debt (excluding charge-offs) growing at an 8% YoY rate. Nonfinancial business debt rose 1.4% YoY in Q2 2021, down from a 4.3% YoY rate in the previous quarter. Federal government debt increased 9.6% YoY in Q2 2021, up from a 9% YoY rate in the previous quarter. State and local government debt expanded at a 3.1% YoY rate in Q2 2021, after expanding at a 3.5% YoY rate in the previous quarter.
