Over the past decade, artificial intelligence (AI) technology has become increasinglyintegrated into the U.S. economy and the daily lives of Americans and people acrossthe globe. The recent advent of generative AI technology has further accelerated thistrend and broadened our ability to supercharge innovation to benefit humankind ona much grander scale. AI has the potential to create significant value across every sector and, accordingto recent estimates, is poised to contribute up to $20 trillion to the global economythrough 2030.¹AI innovation presents an immense opportunity to improve the livesof all Americans, but only if it is thoughtfully and intentionally integrated in a mannerthat allows everyone to benefit. One of the most consequential topics associated with recent advancements in AItechnology is how and to what extent AI tools will affect the workforce, the natureof work, and existing jobs. This paper examines the many ways in which AI, whenimplemented responsibly, can benefit the entire workforce. In the following pages, we outline the many opportunities that AI presents for jobcreation, career advancement, worker empowerment and well-being, and workplacesafety and accessibility. Using history as a guide, we also examine the potential challenges that AI couldpose for workers and the steps that stakeholders, including policymakers andbusiness leaders, should take to ensure that all workers are able to benefit fromand take advantage of AI-driven opportunities.
