Lessattentionhasbeenpaidintheliteraturetosouth-southmigration,althoughexistingdatasuggeststhatcontrarytothecommonperception,south-southmigrationisasmuchasextensiveassouth-northmigration.Forinstance,thebulkofAfricanmigrationoccurswithinthecontinent:morethanhalf(53percent)ofAfrica’smigrantsin2017livedinanotherAfricancountries(Lucas,2015;UNCTAD,2018).Thisshareincreasedsubstantiallytomorethan80percentforsub-SaharanAfrica,althoughporousborders,lessstringentimmigrationrequirements,andlargeinformalsectorsinthehostcountry,makeitdifficulttograspthefullpictureanddynamicofmigrationwithinAfrica. UnderstandingthekeyunderlyingdriversofmigrationinAfricaisimportantforseveralreasons.First,thereisanincreasingawarenessfrompolicymakersthatthefullbenefitfromdeepertradeintegrationwouldnotmaterializewithoutremovingimpedi
