The Renewable Readiness Assessment (RRA) for the Kingdom of Bhutan was conducted by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in December 2019. The report provides a comprehensive evaluation of Bhutan's conditions to identify the actions needed to overcome barriers to renewable energy deployment. The RRA assesses Bhutan's readiness in terms of policy, finance, technology, and infrastructure for the deployment of renewable energy technologies, including bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar, and wind energy. The report concludes that Bhutan has made significant progress in renewable energy deployment, but there are still challenges that need to be addressed, such as the lack of financing and the need for better grid infrastructure. The report recommends several actions, including the development of a renewable energy strategy, the strengthening of financing mechanisms, and the improvement of grid infrastructure, to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy in Bhutan.
