AsIndiareliesheavilyonfossilfuelsforitsenergysupply,adoptingEVswillbeparticularlyimportantforoureconomyandfuturegrowthprospects.CountriesacrosstheworldaremovingtowardsEVs,andtheirpaceofdevelopmentisincreasingacrosssegmentsfrompassengercarstoothermodesoftransport.Itis,therefore,importanttofullyunderstandhownewtechnologiesinEVswillinfluencefuturemobility,theassociatedbusinessmodels,andsocialacceptability.Inrecentyears,theGovernmentofIndiahasfacilitatedvariouspolicyreformsandincentivestoencouragethedevelopmentandacceptanceofelectricvehicles.ToencourageEVpenetrationinIndia,severalstrategicpolicyincentiveshavebeenprovidedbygovernmentsbothattheCentralandStatelevel. EVshavethepotentialtotransformtheautomotiveindustryandhelpdecarbonizetheplanet,andIndiacanbenefitonmanyfrontswiththeintroductionofelectricvehiclesinthecountry.TheGovernmentofIndiaisvigorouslypromotingtherapidadoptionofelectricvehiclestoacceleratethetransitiontogreenmobilityandtoachieveIndia’snet-zerotargetby2070.Indiahassetanambitioustargetof30%electricvehiclepenetrationby2030.ToachievethistargetandfacilitateIndia’stransitiontowardsEVdeployment,acoordinatedactionthatincludesacombinationofpolicysupportfromtheCentralandStateGovernments,infrastructuredevelopment,technologyinnovationsandincreasingconsumerawarenesswillbeessential.
