The CCS Cost Network 2016 Workshop was held in Cambridge, Massachusetts on March 23-24, 2016. The workshop was organized under the auspices of the International Energy Agency, Greenhouse Gas Programme, and Cheltenham, UK. The workshop was attended by steering committee members from various organizations, including GEORGE BOORAS, EPRI, LYNN BRICKETT, USDOE/NETL, JOHN CHAMBERLAIN, GASNATURAL FENOSA, JOHN.DAVISON, IEAGHG, HOWARD J. HERZOG, MIT, WILFRIED MAAS, SHELL GLOBAL, SEAN T. MCCOY, LLNL, RICHARD RHUDY, EPRI, EDWARD S. RUBIN, CMU. The workshop proceedings were published in May 2016.
The workshop had four sessions, with each session focusing on a specific aspect of CCS costs. The first session framed the issue of CCS costs, while the second session focused on project costs for industrial applications. The third session covered project costs for power applications, and the fourth session discussed the role of CCS in changing electricity markets.
The workshop also had two breakout sessions, with each session addressing a specific challenge in CCS cost estimation and financing. The first breakout session focused on reconciling real and estimated CCS plant costs, while the second breakout session addressed the challenges of CCS cost estimation and financing.
The workshop presentations covered a wide range of topics, including the methodology of a detailed CCS cost study, the cost of Quest, the Illinois Basin/Decatur project, the Boundary Dam project, and the FutureGen 2.0 project. Overall, the workshop provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with CCS costs.
