The Regional Flyway Initiative (RFI) is a program that aims to mobilize $3 billion in investments over ten years to protect, restore, and sustainably manage natural wetlands along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. These wetlands provide vital ecosystem services to nearly 200 million people, supporting agriculture, fisheries, and tourism, and are home to over 50 million migratory waterbirds and many other species. The RFI is a transboundary program that will leverage financing, knowledge, and capacity-building to deliver impact on a flyway-scale, demonstrating that habitat restoration, sustainable agriculture and aquaculture, pollution control, water management, and ecotourism can be financially viable and provide multiple benefits for people, nature, and the climate. RFI investments can help countries achieve their Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement, National Development Plan objectives, and commitments to the Convention on Biological Diversity, RAMSAR convention, and Sustainable Development Goals.
