The U.S. conventional hydropower fleet consists of 2,252 plants with a total generating capacity of 80.58 GW, producing 28.7% of electricity from renewables and 6.2% of all electricity in 2022. Capacity increased by 2.1 GW from 2010 to 2022, with 129 new plants coming online and the rest from capacity upgrades. The largest capacity additions were in the Northwest and Southwest regions, with new stream-reach development and conduit projects being the most common types.
