Riseofthemachines InthelastiterationofEconomistImpact’sglobalbankingsurvey,conductedin 2021,bankswerefacingaperfectstormasthepandemicacceleratedconsumeruseofonlinebanking,hasteningtheclosureofbankbranchesandseeminglygivingastrongadvantagetodigital-firstcompetitors.Withfintechstart-ups, paymentplayers,super-appplatformsandtechgiantscontinuingtotakemarketshareastheygainedtheabilitytooffermoretraditionalbankingservices,incumbentbankswerecompelledtoreassess theirprioritiesandbusinessmodels.
