Shanghai,thecountry’shighestGDPcontributingcityandisthebasefortheGroup’soperations,wasputundera2-monthlongcitylockdownduringAprilandMayinresponsetotheupsurgeinthenumberofconfirmedcasesofCOVID-19variant.Theanti-pandemicmeasuresduringthecitylockdownincludedcompulsoryquarantine,temporarysuspensionofbusinessorshorteningofopeninghoursforeateries,retailshopsandentertainmentpremises.Asaresult,theoperatingenvironmenthadbecomeverydifficultfortheretailsectornotonlyinShanghaibutmostpartsofChinasolongastherewereCOVID-19cases. Ontheotherhand,thegrowingpopularityofon-lineshoppingamongtheyoungergenerationofconsumershasalsobeenreshapingthecountry’sretaillandscape.Thiscompelledplayersintheretailindustrytoadapttothechangesandenhancetheircompetitivenessbyadoptingnewtechnologiesandacceleratingdigitalizationoftheirretailandcustomermana
