Energyhasalwaysbeenandremainscentraltohumanachievementandprogress.Itisalso,increasingly,centraltoourverysurvival.Withglobaltemperatureincreasesaveragingcloseto1.5°C,2023wasthewarmestyearsincerecordsbegan,andtheincreasinglysevereimpactsofclimatechangewerefeltacrossallcontinents.Wealso experiencedthecontinuingeffectsofgeopoliticaldisruptiononenergymarkets,andtheeconomiesandlivelihoods theysupport.
