Oncevaccinesbecamewidelyavailableandmobilityrestrictionswerelifted,thefocusshiftedtorecovery.Itwasalsotimetobeginacknowledgingwhatworkedandwhatdidnot.FouryearsafterCOVID-19wasdeclaredaglobalpandemic,economieslearnedthatsomelockdownmeasuresweretoostringentandinplacetoolong.Itnotonlycreatedimmediateandlingeringeconomichardship,butalsolikelyledtolong-termscarringintermsoflosthumancapital.Someeconomieswereabletoapplymoreeffectivemeasures,minimizingboththeshort-andlong-termeffectsontheircitizens,providingimportantlessons.Thepandemicalsomagnifiedthepre-existinggapsbetweenhigh-andlow-incomeeconomies,aswellasbetweenfamilieswithhighversuslowsocioeconomicstatuswithineconomies.Forexample,accesstovaccinesandothermedicalhelpwashighlyunequalinmanyplaces. LearningfromtheresponsestoCOVID-19iscritical.Whilenoonecanpredictthetypeortimingofthenexthealthemergency,anotherwillundoubtablyoccur.Governmentsneedtoadequatelypreparetheirhealthsystemsandcapacitytorespondtoemergencies.ThisreportmakesrecommendationsonhealthemergencypreparednessbyreviewingthelessonslearnedfromtheCOVID-19pandemicexperience.Ithighlightstheneedforbetterandmorer
