The European bus market is growing rapidly, with public transport authorities increasingly planning to purchase electric buses. The ACEA, which represents the five main European bus manufacturers, recommends a limited number of pan-European standardised charging solutions to avoid lock-in effects and increase efficiency. The European Commission has issued a mandate for CEN/CENELEC to recommend a standard for charging electrical commercial vehicles by the end of 2019, but many stakeholders believe this deadline is too far in the future. The UITP Summit in Montreal in May 2017 is one example of a high-level conference discussing the future of electric buses.
