The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has made significant health coverage gains in California, reducing the state's uninsured rate and expanding access to Medi-Cal benefits. Over 3.3 million low-income adults are enrolled in full Medi-Cal benefits due to the ACA expansion, and nearly 1.2 million Californians received federal financial assistance to make coverage through Covered California more affordable. The ACA has also benefited many Californians during the COVID-19 pandemic and recession, as people with insurance are more likely to seek testing and care. The ACA could be overturned in California v. Texas, which the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on November 10, 2020.
