Green IT is becoming increasingly important in the current economic climate, with potential cost savings of 6-11% of total IT costs. The ICT industry is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, with PCs, laptops, mobile phones, data centers, and servers posing environmental problems throughout their lifecycle. Energy consumption in the ICT sector is rising, putting pressure on electric grids and resources. Companies and society have an obligation to minimize the environmental impact of ICT by improving energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and using less harmful materials. The total carbon footprint of ICT is 830 million tons of CO2, representing 2% of global emissions.
