The Americas region is a global leader in carbon capture and storage (CCS/CCUS) development and deployment, with enhanced oil recovery (EOR) playing a key role in project development. North America is home to the majority of the world's large-scale CCS projects, including the Boundary Dam Integrated Carbon Capture and Sequestration Demonstration Project in Canada, the Kemper County Energy Facility in the US, and the Petra Nova Carbon Capture Project in Texas. Additionally, three industrial projects in North America are expected to begin operations in 2015, providing the region with its first operational large-scale CCS projects that store CO2 in saline geologic formations. Brazil is home to the Petrobras Lula Oil Field CCUS Project, the world's only offshore CO2-EOR project.
