Nevertheless,itappearsthatwearefinallyabletoleavebehindthenightmareofthepandemic.OverthelunarnewyearholidaysinJanuary2023,businessontheMainland,MacauandHongKongaswell,wasveryencouraging.AndbeginningwithMarch,travelhasresumed,streetsarecrowded,andeateriesarebustling.Lifeisgettingbacktonormalcy. Butthefadingofthethreatofcovid-19onlyputsintoevenstarkercontrastthespectreofgeopoliticalconflicts.Atthesametime,themajoreconomiesoftheworldareshowingworryingsignsofweakness.Itisnotinconceivablethattradeissuescouldbecomecatalystsformilitaryactions.Theworldisfraughtwithuncertainty. Closertohome,postpandemicwefacechallengessuchaslabourshortage,climbinginterestrates,fast-changingconsumertastesand,noless,climatechange.Weshallpressonwithoureffortsindigitisationandautomationasmeanstoenhanceemployees’jobsatisfaction,tomakeourmanagementstructuremoreagileandeffective,andtoenableustopressontooursustainabilitygoals.
