According to a recent survey conducted by Morning Consult on behalf of the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA), the majority of leisure travelers in the US are reducing and postponing their trips due to the rise in COVID-19 cases. The survey, which was conducted between August 11-12, 2021, among a sample of 2,200 adults, found that 78% of respondents, or 1,707 people, are leisure travelers who may travel for leisure in 2021. The survey results showed that 70% of leisure travelers are likely to travel with smaller groups, 72% are likely to only travel within driving distance, and 65% are likely to take shorter trips. Additionally, 42% of leisure travelers are likely to cancel existing travel plans with no intent to reschedule, and 55% are likely to postpone travel. These findings suggest that the rise in COVID-19 cases is causing leisure travelers to reduce and postpone their trips.
