I.INTRODUCTION:THEGLOBALWELLNESSECONOMY InDecember2021,theGlobalWellnessInstitute(GWI)releaseditsnewresearchreport,TheGlobalWellnessEconomy:LookingBeyondCOVID.1Thisexpansivereportprovidedin-depthdataandanalysisforthewellnesseconomyanditselevensectors–includingtheirsize,performance,andgrowthtrajectories –anditdescribedhowtheCOVID-19pandemichasandwillcontinuetoimpactthesesectors.Thereportprovidedanewwaytoassessthewellnesseconomybygivingsector-by-sectordetailforeachregionaroundtheworld.Thecomprehensivedataprovidedaninsightfullookintoeachwellnesssector’sdistributionacrossdifferentregions,addinggreaterdimensionandinsightintothewellnesseconomy. Thiscompanionreport–TheGlobalWellnessEconomy:CountryRankings–providesanevengreaterunderstandingoftherelativestrengthsofcountries’wellnesssectorsandpolicies.Inthisreport,wepresentasummaryanalysisofthewellnesseconomyattheregionallevelforsixmajorregions,accompaniedbyawellnesseconomydataprofileforeachregion.Usingournewlyexpandeddataset,whichbreaksoutalloftheelevenwellnesssectorsbyregionandbycountry,wearenowabletocomparethesizeandcompositionofthewellnesseconomyacrossdifferentpartsoftheworld.Specifically,werank150countriesbythesizeoftheirwellnesseconomies,comparewellnesstothesizeofeachcountry’soveralleconomy,andexaminepercapitaspendingonwellness.Applyingsimplestatisticalanalysis(depictedbyscatterplotdiagrams),weexaminevariouscountry-levelcharacteristicsthathaveastrongcorrelationtohigherlevelsofspendingonwellness,includingGDP,populationsize,percapitaincome,andleveloftourismdependence. Thisgeographicalcomparativeanalysisallowsustoexamineseveralnewquestionsincluding: •Howistheglobalwellnesseconomydistributedacrosstheworld? •Howdothesize,growth,andcompositionofthewellnesseconomyvaryacrossdifferentcountriesandregions,andwhatdothosedifferencestellus? •Howdidthepandemicaffectwellnessspendingacrossdifferentcountriesandregions? •Whatfactorsareassociatedwithhigherlevelsofwellnessspendingacrossdifferentcountries?
