ButthereisanotherBristol,onethattouristsandevensomeofourcitizensneversee–thecityofpovertyandinequality.Wehave42areasamongthe10%mostdeprivedinEnglandand16%ofourresidentsliveinpoverty.Thereisapersistentlifeexpectancygapbetweenthemostandleastdeprivedareas(anestimatedgapof9.6yearsformenand7yearsforwomen). AndweknowthatthefuturewillbeevenmorechallengingforcitieslikeBristol.Weneedtobepreparedformoreextremeweather,agrowingandageingpopulationandachangingjobmarket.Allofthesefactorswillimpactmostonourpoorestcitizensunlesswefocusonmakingtheirlives,andtheirchildren’slives,better. ThatiswhyIamcommittedtotakingthelongviewtoleadBristoltowardsafuturewherenobodyisleftbehind.Assetoutinthis50yearstrategy,myvisionistobuildaliveablecityofopportunitybuiltonfairnessandinclusion.Aresilientcity,bothsociallyandenvironmentally,whichoffersprosperityforall. Wecannotachievethisalone.Weneedallourcityorganisations–andourcitizens-toworktogethertowardssharedpriorities.TheResilienceSoundingBoardhasmodelledthisnewwayofworkingandtheResilienceStrategygivesusacompassforourfuturedirectionoftravel.Wecouldnothavedonethisworkwithouttheinspirationandsupportofthe100RCandtheothercitiesinthenetworkandwearetrulythankfulandproudtobepartofthisglobalmovement.
