This report focuses on the prospects for renewable energy in South Africa. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) serves as a platform for international cooperation, a center of excellence, a repository of policy, technology, and resource knowledge, and a driver of action on the ground to advance the transformation of the global energy system. The study has benefited from valuable comments and guidance provided by the South African Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) and the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI). The preparation of the study was guided by an expert team that included Mokgadi Modise, Nomawethu Qase, Zita Harber, Tshilidzi Ramuedzisi, and Robin Naidoo.
