The California Program on Access to Care conducted a study on the impact of health benefit reductions in the unionized grocery sector in California. The study found that after the signing of a new contract in 2004, which included changes to health care coverage, an estimated 120,000 union grocery workers in California experienced increased waiting periods for health care eligibility, higher premium contributions, and increased co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles. The study was conducted by analyzing actuarial data and surveying workers in both Southern and Northern California. The results showed that the changes in health care coverage had a significant impact on health coverage and utilization in both regions.
