This data brief examines the health coverage of California workers who are most at risk of losing their job-based health coverage due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The study focuses on workers in industries that are at highest risk of job losses, including restaurants and bars, retail, hotels, and other lodging, amusement, gambling, and recreation, performing arts, sports, and museums, landscaping and building services, select other services, employment services, air transportation, and select private passenger transportation. The study estimates that for every 100,000 California workers losing their jobs due to the pandemic, up to 67,000 workers, spouses, and children are at risk of losing job-based coverage. The study also notes that not all workers in these industries will lose their jobs, nor will all of those who do lose their jobs lose their job-based health coverage.
