The connected car, or connected vehicle, has been a vision for some time, but has not yet had a significant impact on the industry. However, with the growth of the mobile internet, the topic is back on the agenda of OEMs. The key questions remain: What are the most relevant services for customers, OEMs, and other service providers? How to position and manage this complex ecosystem? And finally, how to generate revenues through connected vehicle services? Megatrends such as e-Mobility and efficient use of natural resources are driving the need for new tools and technologies. In addition, security-driven requirements will be required by national legislation within the next few years. The growing penetration of smartphones has educated consumers to access information on demand wherever they are, making the car just another logical place for this information to be created, used, and stored. However, OEMs face a dilemma as they must fulfill the requirements of the ecosystem on connected vehicles while still not having existing market models for generating revenue.
