Bike sharing has been experiencing explosive growth in China since the second half of 2016, thanks to the prevalence of smartphones, mobile payment, and decreasing cost of GPS devices. The new wave of bike sharing is characterized by ease of use based on digital technology, fashionable appearance, and high technology in design. The number of people riding bikes has dramatically increased, especially in Tier 1 cities, and this trend is expected to impact the future development of the urban mobility ecosystem. The implications for stakeholders include city authorities, the existing bicycle supply chain, and new entrant bike-sharing companies.
