The global nuclear industry has recovered from the 2011 Fukushima disaster and is currently operating about 450 reactors with more than 55 new reactors under construction. Many countries are planning to enter the nuclear industry as newcomers, with a total of more than 600 reactors, mostly in Middle East and Asia, planned to be built within the next 25 years. However, a recent Arthur D. Little study identifies over 10 nuclear programs with 45 planned reactors that have ceased existence in the last five years, with several of them already before the Fukushima disaster. Despite this, the nuclear industry is expected to continue its growth with the number of operated nuclear power plants increasing until 2030.
