The UK banking industry has struggled with a negative reputation since the global financial crisis in 2008-09, with numerous scandals and poor customer service. However, the industry has an opportunity for reputation redemption during the COVID-19 pandemic, as banks play a key role in supporting the global economy. Analysis of the Brand Finance global 500 most valuable brands study shows that banks have historically lost the most brand value during recessions, but also have the potential to be the most successful brands during difficult times.
