Thisassessmentpaperexploresthelinkagesandoptionstocoordinateandcooperatebetweenchemicalsandwastemanagementandsevenrelatedclusters.TheselectionofclustersisbasedonlinkagesidentifiedintheGlobalChemicalOutlookII(p.10-11),withtheadditionofhumanrightsbasedonitscross-cuttingrelevance.EachoftheseclustersdemonstrateastronglinkwiththeSDGs. Theassessmentrevealsaplethoraofcommonareasofinterestineachoftheexamined 2 http://www.saicm.org/Portals/12/Documents/meetings/OEWG3/i n_session/V3%20Sound%20management%20of%20chemicals%20and%20waste%20beyond%202020%20-%20FINAL.docx clusters.Yet,gapsremaininexistingmechanismsforcoordinationandcooperation.Accordingly,optionstocoordinateandcooperate(and/ortoenhanceexistingcoordinationandcooperation)canbeidentifiedacrossalltheclusters.Thisappliesaswellforseveralcross-cuttingthemesthatareidentifiedinthisassessment(e.g.thescience-policyinterface).The2030Agendaoffersasuitableoverarchingplatformtostrengthencooperationacrosstheclusters.Inaddition,SAICMandtheSoundManagementofChemicalsandWasteBeyond2020processoffersawindowofopportunitytoestablishaframeworkandtheparameterstofacilitatesuchenhancedmulti-stakeholderandmulti-sectorcollaborationsandcoordination. Acknowledgingthatcooperationandcoordinationinitiativesarealreadyinplaceacrosstheseclusters,thisassessmentseekstobuildupontheseactivitiesandexploremeanstofurtherscaleupsuchefforts.Itisalsorecognizedthatthediscussedhereclustersarenotcomprehensiveandoptionstocoordinateandcooperateoncommonareasofinterestalsoexistwithinotherclustersrelatedtochemicalsandwastemanagement.Thisassessmentisconsideredaninitialsteptowardsunderstandingtheongoingandpotentialfutureinterconnectivityamongclusters.Amorein-depthexaminationofoptionstocoordinateandcooperatemightbeundertakenifdeemednecessary. Thefollowingprovidesasummaryofkeyoptionsonhowandonwhattopicsopportunitiesexisttocoordinateandcooperatebetweenthechemicalsandwasteclusterandtheotherclusters. FurtherlinktheWorldHealthOrganization’s(WHO)ChemicalsRoadmapwithSAICMbeyond2020framework EnhancecooperationintheimplementationoftheInternationalHealthRegulations(IHR) StrengthentheOneHealthQuadripartiteAllianceonantimicrobialresistance(AMR)betweenFoodandAgricultureOrganizationoftheUnitedNations(FAO),UNEP,theWorldHealthOrganization(WHO)andtheWorldOrganisationAnimalHealth(WOAH). Considercollaborationandjointresearchontopicsincluding: (i)pesticidesandfertilizers (ii)environmentalandhealthriskassessmentofplasticsandmicroplastics (iii)leadpaint,cadmium,etc. AligningandstrengtheningrelevanttargetsandindicatorsofthePost-2020GlobalBiodiversityFrameworkandSAICMbeyond2020byjointlyidentifyingprioritychemicalsofconcern,andparametersandmethodologiesformonitoring Mobilizingthechemicalsandwasteconventionsinachievingbiodiversitygoals Considercollaborationandjointresearchontopicsincluding: (i)Plasticpollution,includingharmonizedmonitoring,reportingandassessmentmethodologies (ii)Artisanalminingdrivenlanddegradation (iii)Waterbirdsandleadpoisoning (iv)Pesticidesuseandlossofpollinators (v)Nutrientmanagement,etc. HealthBiodiversity Knowledgesharingandlinkingthechemicaldatabases Sharetechnicalguidanceandexpertiseonoccupationalsafetyandhealth(OSH) Continueandenhancetheongoingcooperati
