The Aquistore® project is the world's first integrated CCS (carbon capture and storage) project. The project is located in Canada and aims to capture and store CO2 emissions from a coal-fired power plant. The project is expected to capture and store up to 1.3 million tons of CO2 per year, which is equivalent to the emissions from approximately 400,000 homes. The project is expected to be operational by 2016 and will have the potential to capture and store up to 10 million tons of CO2 per year by 2025. The project is significant as it demonstrates the technical and economic feasibility of CCS as a climate change mitigation option.
