In Q1 2021, European investors increased their investments into Asian tech by 66%, with deal volumes into India trebling QoQ. US investments into China continued to grow, representing an increase of 50% since Q4 2020. European and US investors prefer Fintech and Software in Asia. European and APAC investments increased, with European deals increasing for the first time since Q2 2020. However, Q1 overall deal volume with Chinese investors slightly decreased by 7% QoQ due to a drop of nine investments into the US. Tencent led overseas investments with seven deals, including two in the digital media space, and NetEase joined with two deals. Fintech targets, especially those in the digital asset space, drove significant interest from Chinese investors. European tech fundraising with Asian investors set a new record of 43 deals for the past two years, increasing by 23% QoQ. Software and Fintech dominated Asian investors’ preference in Europe. Investments into the US were in line QoQ, with Fintech gaining more popularity, driven by strong interests in digital assets.
