The Technology and Public Purpose Project (TAPP) is a Harvard Kennedy School initiative led by Ash Carter, former US Secretary of Defense and MIT Innovation Fellow. TAPP aims to ensure that emerging technologies are developed and managed in ways that serve the public good. The project is founded on the principles that technology's advance is inevitable and often brings progress for some, but progress for all is not guaranteed. The project focuses on the economic consequences and generational impact of the digital divide, recognizing that unless we actively manage the risks of new technologies, they may bring unforeseen destructive consequences. The TAPP Project is committed to creating a future where technology serves humanity as a whole and where public purpose drives innovation.
