The global body for professional accountants conducted a survey in Autumn 2014 to understand ACCA students' views on sustainability. The survey received responses from 4737 students in 126 countries. The survey aimed to discover students' views on sustainability issues, their future role, and their optimism for the next decade. The survey found that students attach great importance to sustainability in their future role. The decline in natural resources was identified as a prominent issue across all regions, with the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia Pacific being the most affected. Population increase was seen as more impactful in Africa, South Asia, and Western Europe, while climate change was regarded as the second most prominent impact. The survey also found that students from Ghana, Pakistan, and the UK considered population increases likely to impact their future role. The survey concludes that students are optimistic about the future of sustainability and business, with 70% of students expecting significant improvements in the next decade.
